Masterclass  – Pupil Information Sheet 2025

Level –  Advanced

This ADVANCED level course is open to pupils who have already completed Stained Glass in a Day course – if you have any questions about eligibility, please contact us before booking.

Design and make your own leaded stained glass panel. Create your own design and measurements and build your own bespoke window/ panel over two days.

Day One will be spent discussing your design, choosing and cutting your glass.

Day Two will consist of leading and soldering and if time allows, you will lead cement to waterproof and stiffen your panels.

 

If this is not possible to cement your panel within the timeframe, your panel can either be collected at a later date or safely delivered to you at no extra cost

 

Glass, lead and solder are included in the course fee as well as use of hand tools, goggles/aprons/gloves, tallow, cement and hanging chain if required – everything you need!

 

Panel Design

Your panel will need to be maximum A3 in size (or equivalent surface area) and of no more than 25 pieces. It can be circular, rectangular, square – the choice is yours!

You will need to send a copy of your design and measurements to chris@cariadglass.co.uk no later than two weeks prior to the course date so that we can convert your design into a cutting pattern, ready to begin.

Your pattern needs to be your own work – a scribble or a sketch, NOT a photo for us to convert…!

 

If you need assistance with a design, please let us know – and be copyright aware, your design may be influenced by stained glass work you’ve researched but must not be a direct copy.

 

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

The art of stained glass uses sharp glass, chemicals and lead – please be aware that the course is NOT suitable for children under 16 years of age or if you are pregnant/breast feeding.

Our one day courses are intensive – if you have any health concerns, problems with balance, standing/sitting for long periods, or are affected by poor grip, please contact us before booking to discuss your needs.

 

You MUST wear sensible shoes in our studio – no open toes, sandals, flip flops etc. We reserve the right to ask a student to leave the class if correct attire is not worn, and/or if safety information is not adhered to. 

No refund will be given in this instance.

 

Traditional stained glass work uses tallow, therefore if you are vegetarian/vegan and would prefer not to use this on the day, please contact us before booking.

If you wear glasses for close up work, please do bring them with you.

We do NOT allow dogs (or any other kind of pet!) to accompany a pupil on their course!

 

PRICES AND BOOKING INFO

 

Masterclass – the cost is £345 per person including all materials and your work to take home with you.

This includes a non-refundable booking deposit of £45 per person.

Bookings will be taken on a first come, first served basis and can be paid by BACS, online on our website, via gift voucher, or in person/over the phone with credit/debit card, cleared cheque prior to the course date, or cash.

The day begins at 9.15am and ends at 5pm approximately.

Tuition, safety equipment and tools all provided as well as tea, coffee and biscuits. We are unable to cater for individual dietary needs.

Lunch can be purchased from the many local establishments, or you may bring your own.

A microwave, fridge and kettle are provided for you to use.

Our gallery premises are open to the public and as it is a working stained glass studio, we will start the day with a full safety briefing.

 

Car parking – please use the public car park next to the Church/park, just a two minute walk from the studio. There is a charge all day parking and the machine is card only.

After leaving the car park on foot, cross the road at Allied Pharmacy, and walk up the short hill to the main road above. Turn left and you will then see the studio – if you have any difficulty walking uphill, please let us know in advance so that we can arrange a lift for you.

Spaces are limited, and we reserve the right to postpone a class if there are not enough candidates – in this instance, any monies paid will either be returned to you, or may be carried over to another date.

 

CANCELLATION POLICY

For cancellations made up to 2 weeks in advance we offer a full refund (less booking deposit).

If we receive less than 2 weeks’ notice we are unable to offer a refund.

We are not able to defer/swap dates, so therefore please ensure that the course and date you have booked is suitable for you.

Unfortunately we are unable to help in the case of sudden inability to take part once a course date has been booked.

We cannot be held responsible for accommodation fees should our course date (s) be cancelled/postponed, or if a pupil is unable to attend for any reason.
